In mid 023M42 the Imperium control the Vastrid and Valitane subsectors, and have recently opened a new pathway, or Foramen, through the Cicatrix Maledictum, by the use of an arcane necron device known as the Nexus Arrangement. Led by Cardinal Valentina Schumadz from the capital Vastrid, the Imperium are embedded in a number of active warzones. With their supply situation much improved, general Kutuzov seeks to take the heavily populated and immensely strategi system of Mordecai from the forces of chaos, before pushing to the galactic east to join up embattled forces in the Hadron Expanse and Zadoc subsector.
The Imperium has vast resources but is extremely stretched. The overall commander of imperial forces, Baran Price, is supported by a number of space marine chapters including the Dark Angels, Hammers of the Emperor and Imperial Fists. Admiral Jellicoe also has access to a large fleet of imperial warships, but these are in demand more than they can be supplied.
