On Corticant, general Veers had managed to push back the eldar advance towards the device chamber, thanks to consistent support from astartes chapters. Now, the Hammers of the Emperor launched a new assault on Blackwater, where the eldar were still in control of the crucial road junction between Fairmoor and Violetwind Coast. The astartes attacked the settlement and were met by a vigorous defence from the Ul'Staer craftworld. Once again the Aeldari forces used their mobility and the webway to appear where the space marines least expected, but this time the Hammers proved to be more durable.
The Hammers of the Emperor took the fight to the eldar, causing a great deal of damage to their forces, although during the course of the battle, the astartes commander was slain in the heavy fighting. However, the crucial road junction was held, and the aeldari units were forced to retreat into the hills overlooking the settlement. Now Veers considered his plans to drive into the hills and shut down the webway portal that allowed the enemy to attack from a location so close to the device chamber.
