Tau special ops gain foothold on Corredon Outpost

As 10.024M42 drew to a close, the conflict across the Mabb Nebula escalated, with multiple factions vying for control over key installations. Among these was Corredon Outpost, a small but crucial listening post situated relatively near to Caitlen Station. Staffed by a minimal Imperial garrison and a few Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priests, Corredon provided the Imperium with a strategic advantage. Located along the vital warp route between Zadoc and Tarsis Major, the station monitored Tau troop and fleet movements, making it a prime target for the ambitious Tau forces and their auxiliaries.

In an initial assault, Kroot mercenaries—employed by the Tau as specialised infiltration units—were dispatched to seize control of the outpost. The Kroot, known for their guerrilla tactics and stealth capabilities, aimed to secure Corredon and the sensitive data it held. However, they faced an unexpected counterstrike from a squad belonging to the Carcharadons chapter of Astartes . Descending upon the outpost with brutal efficiency, the Carcharadons neutralized the Kroot strike force as they attempted to transport vital Imperial communications. The Kroot, employing creative tactics, concealed themselves within stasis tubes and escape pods, hoping to evade detection and maintain their position. Despite this, the Space Marines’ ferocity drove the initial wave back, securing the station for the Imperium.

However, the Kroot auxiliaries were not so easily dissuaded. In a subsequent operation, another team managed to infiltrate the station, bypassing heightened Imperial security. Expertly exploiting the gaps in the outpost’s defenses, they succeeded in retrieving data from computer terminals containing sensitive Imperial intelligence despite once again being intercepted by the space marines. This data provided the Tau with valuable insights into Imperial movements and operational plans, undermining the outpost’s primary function as an Imperial surveillance post.

By 2910.024M42, Corredon Outpost remained a contested site. Though the Imperium retained control of the outpost, the Tau forces now held a tenuous foothold in Corredon, transforming it into a small yet important battlefield in its own right. The Kroot’s actions, although repelled initially, had ultimately succeeded in their objective of gathering intelligence, leaving the Imperium to face a new threat on a shifting front in the Mabb Nebula. The struggle for Corredon continued, each faction aware that this seemingly insignificant station could alter the balance of power in the greater war for the Zadoc Subsector.

Agent Vannick Report - Gamma Team

To: Inquisitor Esquerra

Subject: Updates from the Aleph Sector

Inquisitor Esquerra,

I trust you are already well-informed regarding the major theatres of war in the Aleph Sector, as conveyed through official reports. However, I have uncovered several developments that may not have reached you through the usual channels:

Tyranid Activity in the Rifts of Hecate: While the Tyranid threat has caused significant alarm in the sector, my recent intelligence suggests it may not be as dire as previously believed. The latest action recorded involved what can only be described as aimless raiding forces. The Tyranids do not seem to be pursuing any coordinated objective. Their most recent engagement saw a swarm of bioforms eliminate a Necron tomb on a terrestrial world. This may indicate random feeding behavior rather than a directed campaign, but caution is still warranted until more data is gathered.

Necron Presence Beyond the Hecate Gap: Dark Angel patrols venturing beyond the Hecate Gap have uncovered a disturbing reality—there is a strong Necron presence in several systems. While these ancient xenos have not fully awakened, their defenses are formidable. Several Astartes combat patrols have met with unexpected resistance, suffering losses against Necron forces. This indicates that the threat from the Necrons in these worlds is greater than previously anticipated, and they could fully rise at any moment.

Zadoc Subsector - Hylas: The conflict on Hylas has entered a lull, likely due to the cumulative effect of Astartes raids and a string of failures by Federacy forces. Notably, their attempts to establish a presence on Caitlen Station have been repeatedly thwarted. Intelligence also suggests a further blow to the secessionists—the Night Lords have begun raiding Hartak garrisons and installations. This has disrupted Federal supply lines, compounding their difficulties and weakening their presence in the sector.

I will continue to monitor the Aleph Sector for developments that might not make their way through the usual channels and will inform you as necessary. There are signs of deep instability across the region that warrant our continued vigilance.

As ever, I remain your loyal servant.

Ork Resurgence in the Hecate Gap (10.024M42)

After nine months of largely static warfare, the Imperium  had begun to underestimate the Ork threat in the Hecate Gap. The Orks had initially invaded the region in 021M42, launching their assault with characteristic fury. However, after the Imperium successfully secured Erguras Fall and the Orks showed a reluctance to engage the Imperial Fleet in open battle, the greenskin menace seemed to wane. Imperial High Command, distracted by more immediate crises across the sector, particularly in the Perseus Deeps and the Hadron Expanse, deemed the Orks in the Hecate Gap a lesser threat.

This misjudgment led to the downscaling of the theatre of war, as forces were diverted to address more pressing conflicts. The Orks appeared content to consolidate their hold on the northern territories of the planet, and for a time, the Imperium’s lines held firm.

The Psychic Disturbance and the Grey Knights’ Intervention

In 10.024M42, the situation on the planet took a dramatic and unexpected turn. Strange psychic emanations began radiating from the north, far beyond the Ork-held territories. These unsettling waves of warp energy attracted the attention of the Grey Knights, the Imperium’s elite daemon-hunting Astartes. Believing the psychic disturbance to be the sign of a growing warp incursion or even the influence of a powerful Chaos entity, the Grey Knights deployed to investigate.

The Grey Knights’ first encounter with the Orks, however, was a catastrophe. Drawn north by the psychic signals, they found themselves ambushed by a massive Waaagh!. The Orks, far from the disorganized rabble they had appeared to be, had been galvanized by the strange emanations. The Grey Knights, despite their formidable psychic and martial prowess, were decisively overwhelmed in a brutal engagement. The entire force was wiped out to a man, their holy armour and weapons scattered among the crude trophies of the victorious Orks.

A rescue mission was hastily assembled, with another contingent of Grey Knights sent to recover the fallen and to quell the warp disturbance. Tragically, this second force met an almost identical fate. The Orks, now emboldened and coordinated by some unknown psychic force, once again obliterated the Imperium’s finest warriors. The defeat of the Grey Knights sent shockwaves through Imperial High Command. The realization that the Orks were not only far stronger than previously believed but also possibly under the influence of some dark power shook the Imperium’s confidence in their defenses.

The Waaagh! Unleashed

With the Grey Knights eliminated and the Imperium reeling, the Orks launched their full-scale assault. The long-dormant Waaagh! erupted with terrifying ferocity, surging across Imperial lines and overrunning key defensive positions. General Maximillian, the commander of the Hecate Gap’s Imperial forces, found himself facing a crisis unlike any he had prepared for. The Orks, driven by bloodlust and guided by some unseen force, smashed through the Imperium’s defensive lines, overwhelming fortifications that had once seemed impenetrable.

The fall of Haven, the strategic lynchpin of the Imperium’s defense in the region, would lead to the beginning of a catastrophic collapse. Several key defensive outposts and bastions were on the front lines were overrun, with Imperial casualties mounting by the hour. Panic spread through Maximillian’s ranks as the Orks’ relentless advance threatened to sever the Hecate Gap from the Imperium entirely. The Imperium’s complacency had allowed the Orks to gather strength in the shadows, and now they were paying the price in blood.

Tau covert operations on Hylas

By 10.024M42, the war on Hylas had settled into a tense, largely static conflict. The Imperial forces, reinforced by veterans from across the sector, had dug in behind the natural defenses of the West Hallen Marshes, a strong defensive line that anchored their positions. With the vast Sea of Eden’s Trench to one side and the towering, impassable peaks of Mount Flynn on the other, the West Hallen front became a fortress-like bastion. This provided the Imperium with a strong defensive posture, effectively deterring any major offensive by the Federacy throughout the harsh winter months.

As spring came to Hylas, however, Imperial commanders anticipated that the relative calm would soon end. The Federal forces, overwintering in the Beng Region, had yet to launch their spring offensive, but all signs pointed to an impending assault. Finlay, the most vulnerable of the Imperial defensive positions, was considered the most likely target. Alternatively, the Federacy might attempt a flanking maneuver to bypass West Hallen, advancing westward through Berkeley, Sarina, and down into Collingwood, an arduous trek spanning thousands of kilometers. Despite this possibility, Imperial strategists predicted that the main advance would likely focus on the shorter and more direct route through West Hallen.

The Tau’s Covert Support

While the Tau Empire had not officially committed their front-line forces to the battle for Hylas, they continued to covertly support their allies in the Federacy. The costly battles on New Cerberex had tempered the Tau’s willingness to openly engage the Imperium, especially given the ever-present threat of Astartes intervention. The Dark Angels, still maintaining a base at Mount Bone on New Cerberex, had already shown their willingness to respond to conflicts involving the Tau, and the xenos commanders hoped to avoid drawing their ire.

Despite this, the Tau remained honour-bound to their alliance with the Federacy and provided indirect assistance. Covert operations teams were deployed to Hylas, including units of Vespid Stingwings—elite, swift-moving warriors known for their expertise in reconnaissance and precision strikes. One such team was dispatched to conduct patrols around the East Hallen forts, a key Imperial stronghold.

The Surprise at East Hallen

In a daring operation, the Vespid Stingwings launched a covert reconnaissance mission that ended in a bloody confrontation. Their objective was to gather intelligence on the disposition of the Imperial forces defending East Hallen, particularly those manned by the grim soldiers of the Death Korps of Krieg. The Death Korps, known for their stoic endurance and unyielding defense, had fortified East Hallen with trench networks and artillery emplacements, prepared to face any assault.

However, in the shadows of the East Hallen defenses, the Vespid launched a surprise attack. Their advanced alien technology, coupled with their speed and precision, allowed them to catch the Krieg defenders completely off guard. In a matter of hours, the Vespid had massacred the garrison, leaving the Imperial lines shattered. The swift and brutal engagement stunned the Imperium, as they had not anticipated such a devastating blow from what they believed were purely reconnaissance forces.

Preparing for the Federal Offensive

The success of the Vespid Stingwings not only provided critical intelligence to the Federacy-Tau alliance but also served as a morale boost to their war effort. With detailed knowledge of the Imperial defenses in East Hallen, the alliance began preparing for their next offensive, confident that they could exploit the weaknesses revealed in the wake of the surprise attack.

The Imperium, reeling from the massacre at East Hallen, scrambled to reinforce their positions and bolster their defenses. While the immediate threat was contained, the psychological blow to the Imperial forces was undeniable. The realisation that the Tau were actively supporting the Federacy, albeit covertly, added a new layer of complexity to the war on Hylas. Imperial commanders now faced the prospect of battling not only the secessionist forces of the Federacy but also the advanced technology and cunning tactics of the Tau, all while under the looming shadow of potential Astartes involvement.

As the spring of 10.024M42 unfolded, the war on Hylas stood at a crucial turning point. The Federacy, bolstered by Tau support, prepared for their next move, while the Imperium braced for an offensive that could break their hold on the planet.

Dark Angels break deadlock on Mordecai

By 10.024M42, the war on Mordecai Primaris had descended into a brutal, grinding stalemate. General Kutuzov, commanding the Imperial forces on the planet, had been entrenched for months, his armies pinned within the hive sprawls of Westosia and Menoria. The once-thriving industrial cities had become nightmarish battlefields, where the forces of Chaos—specifically the Death Guard and other Traitor Astartes—dominated the toxic wastelands outside the hives.

The Imperial Naval Air Command was largely ineffective, as the combined corrupting influences of Tzeentch and Nurgle had transformed the lands beyond the hive spires into deadly quagmires of sorcerous energy and rampant disease. Even the most advanced war machines struggled to traverse these cursed lands, and Imperial airstrikes were often turned aside by unnatural warp-born storms.

The Arrival of the Dark Angels

In the dark hours of 10.024M42, a glimmer of hope arrived in the form of two companies of Dark Angels, including several elite units of the Ravenwing, the chapter’s renowned fast attack specialists. Their arrival shifted the strategic balance of power on Mordecai Primaris. The Dark Angels, known for their relentless pursuit of the Emperor’s justice, wasted no time in taking the offensive.

The Ravenwing spearheaded a daring assault, launching from Menoria toward the embattled hive of Westosia, where General Kutuzov’s forces had been fighting tooth and nail for survival. The Death Guard, ever the stalwart defenders of rot and decay, put up fierce resistance, but the Ravenwing’s speed and precision proved overwhelming. Smashing through the Death Guard’s outer lines, the Dark Angels pushed deep into enemy-held territory, driving a wedge between the forces of Nurgle and Tzeentch.

Breakthrough and Counter-Attack

By breaching the Death Guard’s defenses, the Dark Angels accomplished what months of attritional warfare had failed to achieve. The Imperial Guard, bolstered by the Astartes assault, surged forward to exploit the breach. The corridor between Menoria and Westosia—previously a perilous and contested no-man’s land—was widened, allowing for greater coordination between the two hives and ensuring the vital flow of troops and supplies.

However, the forces of Chaos were not to be easily undone. Within days of the Dark Angels’ triumph, the Night Lords, masters of terror tactics, launched a vicious counter-offensive. Their goal was clear: to sever the newly established Imperial supply line and once again divide the hives. The Night Lords struck hard and fast, sowing chaos and fear among the Imperial defenders. Yet, despite suffering heavy casualties, the Dark Angels stood firm, their indomitable will a bulwark against the traitor legions. The line held, preventing the Night Lords from achieving their objective.

The Tide Turns

The successful defense of the Imperial corridor marked a turning point in the war on Mordecai Primaris. The Dark Angels’ intervention had reinvigorated the Imperial war effort, and for the first time in months, the Imperium’s forces began to believe that victory was within reach. General Kutuzov, though battered, was now able to coordinate more effective offensives, bolstered by the presence of the Dark Angels and the reinvigorated Imperial Guard.

Hope stirred once more among the beleaguered defenders of Mordecai Primaris. With the Dark Angels standing alongside the Imperium’s forces, there was renewed optimism that the long and grueling war for the planet might finally conclude with an Imperial victory, and within an acceptable time frame. Yet, the forces of Chaos are as unpredictable as they are tenacious, and the final outcome of the campaign remained shrouded in uncertainty.

The Reclamation of Kagenut: Necron Counterattack on Gamador (09.024M42 - 10.024M42)

In late 023M42, the Chaos incursion into Gamador, located in the Perseus Deeps, resulted in the sacking of the tomb complex at Kagenut. The forces of Chaos, aided by the Dark Mechanicus, plundered the ancient Necron site, seeking to uncover its arcane secrets. Despite this desecration, the Necrons did not immediately respond with a significant counteroffensive. For nearly a year, the tomb complexes of Gamador remained largely dormant, offering no organised resistance to the invaders.

However, in 09.024M42, the growing presence of Chaos forces and renewed Necron activity elsewhere in the region finally triggered the reanimation protocols of the Gamador tomb complexes. The ancient Necron war machine stirred to life, and by 10.024M42, a vast Necron army materialised at the gates of Kagenut. The Dark Mechanicus, still entrenched within the tomb complex, were desperately working to extract knowledge and technology from its depths when the Necron legions descended upon them.

Recognising the imminent threat to their Dark Mechanicus allies, the Night Lords, an infamous Chaos warband, launched a preemptive strike. Their assault was fierce and initially effective, driving the Necrons back and creating a temporary breach in their lines. For a brief moment, it seemed as though Chaos might maintain its grip on Kagenut.

However, the tide of battle shifted when the Necron overlord of Gamador personally intervened, accompanied by a powerful Cryptek who unleashed devastating arcane technology. This combined leadership rallied the Necron forces and shattered the momentum of the Chaos assault. The Night Lords, now facing a fully-coordinated Necron army, began to falter. Realising  their position was untenable, the Dark Mechanicus chose to retreat, abandoning their spoils and fleeing Gamador to avoid complete annihilation.

By the end of 10.024M42, Kagenut was once again under Necron control. Though the Chaos forces had been repelled, the Necrons’ hold on Gamador remained precarious, with the wider conflict in the Perseus Deeps far from resolved. For the moment, however, the Necron overlord had reclaimed the tomb complex and secured its secrets from the grasp of the Dark Gods.

Drukhari raid the Hadron Expanse

+++Date: 2010.024M42

+++Subject: Status Update on the Hadron Expanse

+++To: Inquisitor Esquerra

+++From: Agent [Name redacted]

Inquisitor,

I regret to inform you that the situation in the Hadron Expanse has worsened significantly. Drukhari activity is increasing across the region, showing a concerning rise in their raids and abductions. Notably, two recent incursions were made against the Imperial world of Vanir.

In the first of these attacks, the Black Templars were dispatched to investigate disturbing reports of enemy movements. However, all contact was lost, and the only communication received has been garbled and indecipherable. None of the Black Templars have returned.

Soon after, the Grey Knights, suspecting a daemonic presence, responded swiftly to reports of dark figures roaming Imperial settlements, abducting civilians. Despite their efforts, they too were overwhelmed and defeated by the Drukhari raiders. Their loss in this engagement is not only a blow to our strength but also a grave sign of the enemy’s growing capability and boldness.

The consequences of these failures are already being felt. Morale on the surrounding Imperial worlds is plummeting. General Percival has formally requested reinforcements, indicating the strain on local forces and the fear now gripping the populace.

Compounding the threat, wider intelligence has reported that the Necron tomb world, known as “Bal of Bones,” has also fallen victim to the Drukhari. A tomb was looted during the raid, though the full extent of what the xenos acquired remains unclear. This act of audacity has only deepened concerns for the stability of the region, as it implies that the Drukhari are growing bolder, not only in their attacks on the Imperium but also in their readiness to antagonise other ancient powers.

I will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more intelligence becomes available.

Your obedient servant,

The Aleph Sector Warzones 10.024M42

The Perseus Deeps

By 10.24M42 the Perseus Deeps was divided into two main theatres of war. Towards Galactic "west" of the region, where the Foramen Nova bisects the Cicatrix Maledictum, providing the Imperium with a stable supply route from the Valitane Subsector in the Imperium Sanctus - is the Mordecai system. For several years the forces of Chaos, led by the Emerald Serpent and interference from Magnus the Red, have been slowly losing ground to General Kutuzov and his armies, supported by the fleets of Admiral Stark.

Mordecai Tersius and Secundus have fallen to the Imperium, but now with the strategic logistics situation finely balanced, Kutuzov is struggling to break out of his landing zones on the capital world Mordecai Primaris.

Further to the galactic "east", lies the Harakhty Dynasty of Necron worlds. Once minor unimportant outposts, these world were overrun by reanimating necrons during the period 002.042M42 to 014.042M42, but have been riven by a mysterious tech blight. Now the Imperium under General Veers has begun a renewed crusade in the Perseus Deeps, invading and securing the world of Enaloth in 024.M42. However the Imperium face resistance from chaos and tau forces seeking to disrupt this campaign

The Perseus Deeps is the main theatre of war for the eternal war of the Imperium vs. chaos, and features scope for large set piece battles, fleet actions and apocalypse games. By default all chaos vs. Imperium games will be added to the Mordecai System campaign, which has been going on now for nearly a decade in real time! Imperium are winning...

The Perseus Deeps also has the main necron wars, as the forces of the Tau Empire, Imperium and chaos attempt to carve up the necron worlds between them.

The Zadoc Subsector

Once a powerful Imperial realm the Zadoc subsector fell to the combined efforts of chaos, the tyranids and the Tau-Federacy alliance even before the coming of the Cicatrix Maledictum. Now only Hylas remains in Imperial control, and the Tau-Federacy alliance, with occasional help from the Aeldari, are conducting a campaign to remove this last remnant of Imperial rule, opposed by smaller forces of Imperial guard and space marine companies. The war consists of a number of small scale actions as well for small but important installations in the Mabb Nebula.

Meanwhile the Zadoc Subsector also sees a major Tau invasion of chaos held Zadoc. Taking this world, and then Grimlock followed by the Rim Worlds beyond, would secure beyond doubt the sector and cut off the Hadron Expanse from easy resupply from the Imperial hub worlds, and remove the chaos taint from their "Aleph Expansion Sphere".

This warzone is a major warzone but more narrative in context, open to smaller engagements but also large battles. The region sees the Tau invading the major chaos world of Zadoc, and the orks, imperium and tau forces vying for control of several small installations and minor worlds. Ideal for boarding action and Kill Team.

The Hadron Expanse

The Hadron Expanse isn't even designated as a subsector of the Aleph Sector by Imperial command. Although home to nominally two army groups under General Konev and General Percival, and a naval battlegroup, the imperial worlds in the region are scattered and of low resource value. However the Hecate Gap, the only stable pathway to the volatile region of the Rifts of Hecate, is vital to control, and is currently held at one end by the Imperium. Should this bastion of Imperial resistance collapse, then untold hordes of Orks, Tyranids and Necrons threaten to overwhelm the Imperium's borders in the region. In addition, the Tau Empire's "Hadron Sphere" would be hard pressed to deal with the Tyranid threat.

The Hadron Expanse focusses on outpost worlds, featuring a narrative of the orks and tyranids threatening the sector from the galactic rim. Any games are applicable, but allied games in particular (orks+tyranids+necrons are trying to get through the gap, everyone else is trying to stop them) also fit well in this theatre. From time to time the GM may introduce "McGuffin's" to fight for, over a limited time period, which will confer significant faction advantages on the winner.

Orks land on Erguras Fall

Activity in the Hadron Expanse had been low for around a Terran year by mid 10.024M42. Hive Fleet Poseidon appeared to be quiescent, although the Adeptus Biologis hypothesised that they may be in a "digestion" phase of their lifecycle, having recently conquered and absorbed three systems within the Rifts of Hecate. The forces of Chaos had consolidated their forces on Mendesum and continued to research exotic plagues under the direction of the Death Guard, and the Tau seemed content to maintain their watch at Garmenes.

In the strategically significant Hecate Gap, the trench lines dug by the Imperium at Haven had not moved for months, as they were content to hold the Ork threat off while maintaining control over their space port and defence lasers. With the Fleet in orbit, Haven was by now an Imperial controlled system with a cut off pocket of orks on the main continent. Ergura's Fall was more complicated, with no major power having overall control of the world. The brutal Erguran winter had set in however, making new assaults almost impossible. Now however, it was spring on Ergura's Fall once more, and with that spring came an unwelcome new invasion. The orks had returned to the Hecate Gap in force.

The ork invasion was modest by ork standards but still enough to butcher a chaos space marine contingent in the north of the world and set up a new encampment of greenskins. As of 11.10.024M42 the Imperium did not yet consider this new ork force a credible threat, but began monitoring the situation for any escalation. An all out Waagh! against the two systems of the Hecate Gap would put the Imperial held systems in the Expanse at considerable risk, as no new resources could be found and diverted to the region. The Tau took a close interest as well, as their "Hadron Expansion Sphere" lay directly in the path of any invading ork horde.

Harlequins disrupt investigation at Waystation 233

Following the space marine raids on Tau installations across the Mabb Nebula in the Zadoc Subsector, the Aeldari had been swift to remove the imperial presence at Waystation 233, but the Imperium were not willing to give up on controlling the strategically significant defence platform and space station. In early 10.024M42 a squad of space marines were sent ahead to scout the station for Tau or Aeldari presence. Approaching in a Hunter class escort with energy signature set to minimum, the astartes force found nothing and began their investigation of the now empty installation.

Within hours of landing on the station however, the space marine squad found itself under assault from a new Aeldari force, seemingly appearing from nowhere. The space marines fought a fighting retreat but were overwhelmed by the xenos attackers, although they did identify the force as those of the Rillietann, or Harlequins. In any case it was clear that retaking the Waystation would take more than a small insertion team.

Attempted Imperial landing at Gamador fails

Having secured the necron world of Enaloth general Veers was keen to push on and assault the next world as soon as possible. He had multiple concerns weighing heavily on him at the start of 10.024M42, as the war at Mordecai had stalled, giving him a personal chance to take some of the limelight away from his rival Kutuzov, but at the same time, news had come to his attention that the forces of chaos, seeing the moves by the tau and imperial forces, had launched their own offensive against the necrons.

percieving the necrons to be weak, a "carve up" of their territory was being planned, with the tau, chaos forces and Imperium vying to control the necron worlds as fast as possible to shore up their own respective strategic positions. With this in mind, instead of Gamordal or Sullidan being selected as the next Imperial target, Veers instead opted for an assault on Gamador, risking the longer route and proximity to both Tau space and the chaos held Rim worlds to prevent an easy chaos victory in the system and to perhaps distract the Tau away from their war in the Zadoc subsector. In all of these considerations Veers had failed to take into account one rather major factor. The necrons themselves.

In their exploratory landing the Imperial forces were lead by a Space Wolves detachment. The plan was simple, land at the Phillek tomb complex, secure the area and set up a strong defence in the Karothis valley. The initial landings were unopposed, but soon the Space Wolves were disconcerted to see a large and imposing necron army marching down the road from Karothis. Far from a dead tomb world suffering from a tech blight, this tomb world was awake and prepared to defend itself.

The ensuing battle did not go well for the Astartes who were badly mauled by the accurate firepower of their xenos enemies. Though the space marines fought on stubbornly long enough for Veers to evacuate his guard forces from Phillek, the result was a catastrophe for the Imperium, who had now lost any element of surprise with the chaos forces or the Tau, and had suffered a humiliating defeat Infront of not one but three enemies. Veers now planned how he would make amends for this setback.

The Zadoc Subsector - 2009_024M42

By 09.024M42, the conflict in the Zadoc Subsector had reached a critical juncture, drawing the focused attention of Imperial High Command. The situation had become increasingly dire, as the Imperium struggled to hold on to Hylas, the last bastion of Imperial control in the subsector. The encroaching forces of the separatist Federacy, in alliance with the Tau Empire, were threatening to overwhelm the beleaguered Imperial defenders. With resources stretched thin and the ability to send large reinforcements limited by the fractured state of the Imperium Nihilis, especially the ongoing resource needs in the Mordecai war against chaos, a strategic decision was made to call upon the Adeptus Astartes for aid.

Astartes Intervention

In response to this urgent request, several Space Marine Chapters were deployed to the Zadoc Subsector. Rather than conducting a direct assault on Hylas, the Dark Angels Chapter—known for their cold, calculating strategies—opted to target key assets in the surrounding region to weaken the Tau-Federacy alliance and disrupt their supply lines.

The first phase of the Dark Angels' intervention saw them launch lightning-fast assaults on two critical Tau outposts:

  • Andar Station: A strategically vital space station that had served as a staging ground for Tau operations in the region. The Dark Angels overwhelmed the station’s defenders with ruthless efficiency, seizing control in a matter of hours.
  • Waystation 233: Another Tau-controlled installation, vital for the supply routes to the front lines. The Space Marines’ attack was swift and decisive, and within days, the Imperium had gained control of this critical asset.

The success of these operations disrupted the Tau’s plans, but the Dark Angels' actions were not without consequence.

The Eldar Reaction

The raids carried out by the Dark Angels did not go unnoticed by other factions in the region. The Aeldari of the Mabb Nebula, the so-called Shadow Worlds, watched with growing concern as the Imperium encroached upon territories close to their own. The Aeldari have long been known for their manipulative and elusive nature, and this situation proved no different.

Seemingly preferring the Tau’s presence as a buffer against the mon-keigh (humans), the Aeldari launched a surprise raid on Waystation 233, swiftly removing the newly established Imperial presence. The speed and precision of the Eldar attack left little doubt about their intentions. This move strongly suggested that the Aeldari viewed the Tau as less of a threat to their interests than the Imperium, raising suspicions of an ongoing, albeit informal, alliance between the Tau Empire and the Aeldari.

The Struggle for Caitlen Station

Meanwhile, the Federal Forces of Hartak, a key element of the Federacy's military power, sought once more to secure a foothold on Caitlen Station, a vast and strategic space installation whose control could sway the balance of power in the entire subsector. However, they faced an unexpected and increasingly deadly foe: the Tyranids.

The bio-horrors of the Tyranid Hive Fleets had already infested much of Caitlen Station, controlling over half of the installation. Despite their efforts, the Federacy’s forces were driven back once again by the ravenous xenos, suffering significant losses in the process. The presence of the Tyranids on Caitlen Station complicated the situation for all factions, turning the installation into a deadly no-man’s land where even seasoned troops feared to tread.

Summary

By the end of 09.024M42, the situation in the Zadoc Subsector had only grown more complex. The intervention of the Adeptus Astartes had temporarily bolstered Imperial efforts, but the raid by the Aeldari on Waystation 233 hinted at dangerous new dynamics. The possibility of a Tau-Aeldari alliance loomed large, while the presence of the Tyranids on Caitlen Station continued to pose a significant threat to any attempt at securing the subsector.

Imperial High Command faced difficult decisions in the months to come. The strategic value of the Zadoc Subsector could not be overstated, yet the presence of multiple xenos factions, the rebellious Federacy, and the growing threat of Chaos meant that the Imperium’s grip on this part of the galaxy was growing increasingly tenuous. Whether the Imperium would manage to retain Hylas or lose its last foothold in the subsector would depend on the decisions made in the coming campaigns.

Welcome to the Aleph Sector

Welcome to the Aleph Sector 40k (universe) campaign. This is a sector wide "pick up and play" campaign which is largely narrative, but now has a number of specific theatres to cater for different campaign styles.

Sweeping conflict between Chaos and the Imperium in the Perseus Deeps is an ongoing and apparently endless struggle between the warriors of the Emperor and their hated traitors. The campaign theatre supports all 40k universe games including 40k, Kill Team, Battlefleet Gothic, AI and Epic. The main "campaign system" allows players to simply find an opponent, play the game then record the results with the GM - this generates "points", which the overall faction commander (or the GM if there isn't one), can spend on territory, strategic raids, fortifications or anything else feasible within the campaign. The larger the game - the more points, but the better your faction is doing gives you a bonus to your win. The Perseus Deeps is the main theatre of war in the sector, as it is close to the Cicatrix Maledictum and is key to the control of the sector.

More information on the "system" can be found here (you don't need to know any of this at all, but the GM (Duncan) works with faction commanders to make best use of their wins, and acts as an advisor, warning against strategically "unwise" moves - though is often ignored!)

In the Perseus Deeps and Zadoc subsectors the Tau, Imperium, Necrons, Orks and Chaos forces are battling one another for control over the region as the Tau launch their Perseus and Zadoc expansion sphere campaigns.

Meanwhile in the Hadron Expanse, the Tyranids, Orks and Necrons are seeking to pour through the Hecate Gap - a passageway through a set of warp storms that once sealed them off from the rest of the sector - while the imperium, chaos and Tau forces try to stop them, and the eldar try to seal off the region once and for all.

The whole map is however "live" and players who want to get into the narrative can drive their own plots and perhaps even trigger the next major theatre of war. Any and all games from matched play to one off narratives can be played - its as much as you personally want to make of it.

The Aleph Sector - 09.024M42

### Detailed Strategic Report: Aleph Sector in 024M42

**Sector Overview:**

The year is 024M42, and the Aleph Sector stands at a critical juncture in the Era Indomitus. The Great Rift, also known as the Cicatrix Maledictum, has split the galaxy in two, casting the Aleph Sector into a state of constant conflict. Situated within the Ultima Segmentum, the sector occupies a strategic location astride the Cicatrix Maledictum. Thanks to the ancient relics of the Necron race, the Aleph Sector hosts two stable warp channels—crucial corridors that connect the Imperium Sanctus with the Imperium Nihilis. The control and security of these channels are of paramount importance, as they represent some of the few reliable means of communication and travel between the sundered halves of the Imperium.

**Sector Leadership and Political Divisions:**

The Aleph Sector is under the command of Sector Commander Cardinal Valentina Schumadz, a figure who must navigate the complex and often contradictory demands of war, faith, and survival. The sector is divided into several subsectors, each with its own strategic significance and challenges:

- **Vastrid Subsector (Imperium Sanctus):** Remains under firm Imperial control. It is a key stronghold and staging ground for Imperial operations within the sector, providing vital resources and reinforcements.

- **Valitane Subsector (Imperium Sanctus):** Also under Imperial control, Valitane serves as a bastion of faith and loyalty to the Emperor, anchoring the sector’s defenses against the encroaching threats from the Great Rift.

- **Aleph Subsector (Imperium Sanctus):** Now lost to the secessionist Federacy, an independent faction allied with the Tau Empire. This loss represents a significant blow to the Imperium’s control in the region, with the Federacy using the subsector as a base for further expansion.

- **Enceladus Subsector (Galactic Rim):** Dominated by Chaos forces and Ork warbands. The Imperium’s presence here has been largely eradicated, and the subsector serves as a hotbed for raids and incursions into neighbouring regions.

- **Zadoc Subsector (Imperium Nihilis):** Once an Imperial Stronghold all the Imperial Systems save one, Hylas, have fallen to chaos, the Tau Empire or the Tyranid Menace

- **Perseus Deeps (Imperium Nihilis):** Bastien, Parthenope and other systems have been retaken by the Imperial Crusade, the war on Mordecai continues to suck in resources from around the sector on both sides.

**Primary Warzones:**

1. **The Perseus Deeps:**

   - **Strategic Importance:** The Perseus Deeps is the most significant conflict zone within the Aleph Sector, where the forces of Chaos and the Imperium clash in a brutal and ongoing struggle. This region’s control is vital for both sides, as it offers access to key warp routes and resources.

   - **Imperial Command:** General Veers and General Kutuzov lead the Imperial crusade efforts. General Kutuzov is particularly focused on the war for Mordecai, where Imperial forces are locked in a grinding war within the hive cities of Mordecai Primaris. The protracted nature of this conflict has drained resources and manpower, leading to a stalemate.

   - **Xenos Threat:** On the eastern fringe of the Perseus Deeps, the Tau Empire, alongside Imperial forces, is attempting to carve out portions of the Necron Harakhty Dynasty’s empire. This complex, multi-front war adds to the sector's instability, as both the Tau and Imperium seek to exploit Necron weaknesses while fending off each other’s advances.

2. **The Zadoc Subsector:**

   - **Strategic Importance:** The Zadoc Subsector is a remote but crucial part of the Aleph Sector, far from the main Imperial hub worlds. The loss of this subsector would significantly weaken the Imperium’s position within the Imperium Nihilis, making its defense a priority despite its distance from Terra.

   - **Current Conflicts:** The last remaining Imperial outpost on Hylas is under severe pressure from Tau forces. The Tau Empire is aggressively expanding in this region, not only targeting Imperial holdings but also clashing with Ork forces in the Mabb Nebula. Additionally, the Tau continue their incursion into the Chaos-held world of Zadoc, a move that threatens to destabilize the entire subsector.

3. **The Hadron Expanse:**

   - **Strategic Importance:** The Hadron Expanse, located in the far eastern part of the Aleph Sector, is a highly contested region due to the presence of the Hecate Gap. This stable warp passage between the Rifts of Hecate and the Hadron Expanse is a critical route for all factions in the area, including the Imperium, Orks, Eldar, and Tau.

   - **Tyranid Threat:** The most pressing danger in the Hadron Expanse is the ongoing Tyranid invasion. The Tyranids are relentlessly pushing to dominate the Hecate Gap, and if successful, they would threaten multiple worlds in the region. The Imperium, along with other factions, faces the very real possibility of annihilation if the Tyranid swarm is not contained.

**Conclusion:**

The Aleph Sector in 024M42 is a microcosm of the greater struggle engulfing the galaxy during the Era Indomitus. With the Imperium beset on all sides by Chaos, secessionists, and xenos, the sector’s future is uncertain. Sector Commander Cardinal Valentina Schumadz faces the daunting task of holding the Imperium's fractured territories together while fending off threats that could spell the end of Imperial rule in the region. As war rages in the Perseus Deeps, the Zadoc Subsector, and the Hadron Expanse, the fate of the Aleph Sector hangs in the balance.

Sky Lords intervene on Hylas

Following the Space Wolf raids against the Federacy the Sky Lords responded to the request for aid at Hylas. By 07.024M42 the Alliance, led by Hartak forces had established a bridgehead in the far south of the world and were moving on the southern settlements of Desmond and Finlay. The astartes raid had slowed the Federal advance, giving the imperial forces time to build defensive lines along the only feasible route to the capital Eden's landing, but by late 07.024M42 the squats were once again advancing north.

The Sky Lords took an aggressive stance, rolling into Desmond in their heavily armoured land raiders, but they had severely underestimated the Hartak forces. Expecting mostly infantry and light vehicles the Sky Lords were wholly unprepared for the sudden appearance of a giant mining drill burrowing upwards into the armoured column. Pandemonium followed and although the asatartes terminators were able to cut down many of the Hartak infantry, the entire armoured column was destroyed, forcing the Sky Lords first company to evacuate Desmond.

By the end of 07.024M42 the Federacy had secured Desmond and Finlay looked likely to be indefensible. The war paused as a cold winter struck the southern hemisphere, but soon the battle for West Hallen and the approaches to Collingwood would begin in earnest.

Brutal fighting on Caitlen Station

+++ Subject: *After-Action Report on Caitlen Station Engagements*

++++ Report Filed By: **Captain Rhaegar Lysander**, Hammers of the Emperor Chapter

++++ Date: *09.024M42*

++++ Location: *Caitlen Station, Zadoc Subsector*

---

++++ Summary:

Caitlen Station, abandoned for several decades after the withdrawal of the Imperial presence in 977.M41, became a focal point of conflict during the rekindled Zadoc Subsector War in 024.M42. The station, a colossal spaceborne fortress once used as a forward operating base for Imperial fleets, was discovered to be infested with the xenos species known as Tyranids, specifically elements from Hive Fleet R’Lyeh. Initial attempts to secure the station were met with fierce resistance, and further conflict arose when forces from the Leagues of Votann, the Squats of Hartak, re-entered the fray. By 042.M42, much of the station lay under Tyranid control, with both Astartes and Votann forces in disarray.

---

+++ *Engagement Timeline:*

++++ **07.24M42 - Initial Reconnaissance and Bridgehead Establishment:**

After the successful establishment of bridgeheads in the Zadoc system, the Hammers of the Emperor Astartes Chapter made the decision to reclaim Caitlen Station, a strategically vital platform capable of supporting further war efforts across the subsector. Initial scans showed the station to be devoid of human life, with its systems inactive. However, early reports from recon squads indicated the presence of biomass signatures consistent with Tyranid infestation.

The *Hammers of the Emperor* dispatched three companies—led by Captain Rhaegar Lysander—to investigate the station’s depths. Upon boarding, resistance was immediate and ferocious. Brood creatures and Lictor-class organisms ambushed the initial strike force in the primary docking bays, triggering brutal corridor combat. The presence of Hive Fleet R’Lyeh was confirmed, but the Tyranid forces displayed an unusual tenacity, suggesting a higher degree of synaptic control deep within the station.

++++ **07.024M42 - Defeat of the Hartak Squats:**

Simultaneously, the Squats of Hartak—who had previously contested the Astartes during the early stages of the Zadoc War—were tracked attempting to establish a foothold near the station's engineering sectors. The Hammers of the Emperor launched a decisive strike that broke the back of the Votann forces, forcing them to retreat from the sector. While victorious, the victory was pyrrhic. Shortly after the Hartak defeat, Hive Fleet R’Lyeh surged, launching counterattacks through the labyrinthine station’s maintenance shafts, grinding the Astartes advance to a halt.

++++ **08.024M42 - Stalemate and the Arrival of the Sky Lords Chapter:**

By early 042M42, the Tyranid presence had expanded throughout Caitlen Station. The Hammers of the Emperor, entrenched in the upper tiers, held a stalemate against relentless Tyranid waves. Swarms of Genestealers and Hormagaunts harried their forces, and several key sectors were lost.

The Sky Lords Chapter, arriving as reinforcements, launched a bold flanking action, attempting to breach the station from the far opposite side. Their entry was swift and methodical, but it was soon discovered that the Hartak Squats had regrouped and were also attempting to reclaim their lost holdings within the station.

++++ **09.024M42 - The Battle of the Dual Incursion:**

The Sky Lords’ boarding parties encountered the Hartak forces in the transit halls of the lower levels, sparking intense close-quarters combat. Both sides, desperate to control Caitlen Station’s critical command sectors, fought a pitched battle through the reactor conduits and ammunition storages. As these two forces were locked in combat, the Tyranid infestation erupted once more.

The sheer numbers of the Hive Fleet overwhelmed both Astartes and Votann forces. Gargoyle flocks and Carnifex shock troops stormed through the warring factions, breaking their lines and scattering survivors. The Sky Lords’ command squad was wiped out, and only a few survivors from both the Astartes and Hartak forces managed to fall back to the remaining defensible points of the station.

++++ **Current Situation - 09.024M42:**

As of the time of this report, the Tyranid infestation has claimed much of Caitlen Station. Both the Hammers of the Emperor and Sky Lords have been forced to withdraw to isolated strongpoints near the station's central spine. The Hive Fleet’s bioforms now control approximately 75% of the station, with the remaining forces scattered and isolated. Attempts to regroup and launch counter-assaults have been severely hampered by the Tyranid synaptic network that has taken root deep within the station’s substructure.

Preliminary analysis suggests that a full-scale purge of Caitlen Station may now be required, potentially involving Exterminatus protocols should the infestation prove impossible to contain.

---

+++ *Tactical Analysis:*

 - **Hive Fleet R’Lyeh’s Tactics:** The Tyranids of Hive Fleet R’Lyeh have demonstrated remarkable adaptability in the station's environment. They have utilized the narrow corridors and confined spaces of Caitlen Station to devastating effect, cutting off Astartes and Hartak forces from coordinated attacks. Their use of ambush tactics, particularly Lictors and other stealth organisms, has resulted in significant casualties to forward reconnaissance teams.

  - **Votann Interference:** The presence of Hartak forces complicated the Hammers of the Emperor’s operations significantly. While these abhumans were initially defeated, their reappearance during the Sky Lords’ attack created an opening for the Tyranids to strike from the shadows. This conflict delayed the Astartes from consolidating control over key sectors, allowing the xenos to gain critical ground.

  - **Sky Lords’ Tactical Missteps:** The Sky Lords Chapter’s decision to launch their assault on the station without fully coordinating with the Hammers of the Emperor led to unnecessary friction. The divided efforts allowed the Tyranids to exploit the resulting chaos, causing substantial losses to both Astartes forces.

---

+++ *Recommendations:*

1. **Immediate Reinforcement:** A significant force of Imperial Guard and Mechanicus support is required to stem the tide of the Tyranid infestation. If left unchecked, Hive Fleet R’Lyeh may be able to utilize the station as a staging ground for further incursions into the Zadoc Subsector.

2. **Orbital Strike Considerations:** If the infestation spreads further into Caitlen Station’s structural core, orbital bombardments may be necessary. Consultation with the Inquisition is recommended to determine the station's long-term strategic viability.

3. **Full Exterminatus Preparation:** Should the Tyranid infestation become irredeemable, a full-scale Exterminatus may be required. While the station's significance as a strategic asset is considerable, the potential risk of Hive Fleet R’Lyeh utilizing it as a bio-manufacturing site outweighs its value. Involving the Ordo Xenos is advised to assess whether a targeted strike can cripple the hive structures growing within the station.

---

**Conclusion:**

Caitlen Station has devolved into a dangerous and contested zone, dominated primarily by the Tyranid forces of Hive Fleet R’Lyeh. The failure to fully secure the station early on, combined with the unexpected re-entry of the Hartak Votann forces, has left Imperial control fractured. Without decisive action, the Tyranid infestation will continue to grow unchecked, threatening not only the station but the broader war efforts in the Zadoc subsector.

**Actionable Intelligence Required:** Further scans of Caitlen Station’s deeper structures are necessary to locate synaptic nodes or a potential Hive Tyrant. A targeted kill team strike could sever the fleet’s command capabilities, offering a final opportunity to reclaim the station before more extreme measures are needed.

**End of Report.**

Setbacks at Mordecai

By 07.024M42 its all going a bit wrong for Kutuzov. Death Guard defeat Novgorod around North Averbrike, seeding the area with noxious ground hugging spores slowing the imperial advance. Meanwhile the Angels of Vengeance fail to disrupt a tzeentch ritual which turns much of the Menoria Hive sprawl into a chaotic shifting miasma, again making any hope of breakout more challenging.

in the middle of 024M42 the Imperial campaign on Mordecai Primaris was beginning to bog down. By 07.024M42 the chaos defenders had radically changed their strategy and this had immediate negative effects on Kutuzov's advance. The Imperium were now stuck in two landing zones, controlling most of North Averbrike and Menoria Hive, but unable to effect a breakout across the wastes between the cities. The wastelands of Mordecai Primaris, while easy to traverse for the Imperial armies, were full of secret caches and tunnels, and provided the imperial armies with almost no cover from roving chaos air strikes. The Imperium still had a strategic logistical advantage, but without any air bases as yet on the ground, the time delay to scramble fighters added to the difficulty for Kutuzov's soldiers, who sat in defended positions within the cities. The campaign was going nowhere.

To make matters worse, small patrols by Kutuzov to secure the immediate perimeters around the hives suffered serious setbacks between 07.024M42 and 09.024M42. At North  Averbrike, the Novgorod Guard were defeated by the Death Guard of the House of Eschar, who the proceeded to seed the entire area with noxious ground hugging spores. further slowing any imperial advance.

In Menoria Hive Sprawl the disciples of the Changer of Ways undertook a ritual, despite being interrupted by the Angels of Vengeance, turning much of the outskirts of the city into a reality defying shifting miasma of unnatural constructs and hidden dangers. Advancing here was also seriously impaired. Back at Imperial HQ on Bastien, General Kutuzov was once again coming under serious pressure to deliver results, as the campaign dragged on into its sixth year.

Space Wolves dig in on Hylas

Following the Federacy-led invasion of Hylas, the Alliance's continued advance relied heavily on Tau logistics within the Zadoc subsector. This strategic dependency necessitated a significant presence of Tau Earth Caste personnel in the rear areas of the invasion zone, supported and defended by Tau military forces. On 2405.023M42, the beleaguered Imperial defenders received critical reinforcement when a company of Space Wolves arrived to lend their aid in the conflict.

The Space Wolves, assessing the situation, quickly realised that their numbers were insufficient to dislodge the entrenched invasion force entirely. However, to buy the Imperial defenders crucial time to strengthen their positions, the Space Wolves executed a daring raid on the Tau-held rear areas supporting the Alliance invasion. This strike aimed to disrupt the logistical supply chain that was vital to the Federacy's continued operations.

The raid was characterised by the ferocity and precision typical of the Space Wolves. Their attack was swift and brutal, with the Tau defenders unable to effectively counter the onslaught. Despite their advanced firepower, the Tau forces failed to find their mark, and the Space Wolves wreaked havoc on the logistical support structures. The Earth Caste and their defenders were forced to withdraw, allowing the Space Wolves to inflict significant damage before retreating back to their hidden strike cruiser in the upper atmosphere of Hylas.

This successful raid provided the much needed respite for the Imperial forces under General Van Dorn. Seizing the opportunity, Van Dorn's troops made substantial progress in constructing a trench line northeast of the settlement of Desmond, positioned strategically in front of the difficult terrain of the swamps of West Hallen. These defences would prove crucial in the coming engagements, fortifying the Imperial position and slowing the Alliance's advance.

Tyranids land on Mendesum

As the primary factions competing for supremacy in the Aleph Sector shifted their focus, reducing their activities in the Rifts of Hecate, the Tyranids continued their advance into the galaxy. This region, deemed of lesser strategic importance due to the major offensives launched by the Imperium and the Tau Empire in the Perseus Deeps, became the theatre for the relentless advance of Hive Fleet Poseidon, as they continued their inexorable push towards the Hecate Gap.

In 05.024M42, the Hive Fleet set its sights on the Chaos-held system of Mendesum. The invasion commenced with swarms of Tyranids making planetfall, initiating a brutal and swift assault on the world. The Chaos forces, caught off guard by the sheer ferocity of the xenos assault, were compelled to retreat towards their largest settlement, Mendesum Prime, and in a desperate bid to halt the Tyranid advance, Chaos sorcerers summoned daemonic hordes, deploying these infernal allies as a bulwark against the encroaching threat.

However, the daemonic forces proved no match for the Tyranids. The xenos creatures, driven by an insatiable hunger, tore through the daemonic ranks with ruthless efficiency. The hastily summoned defenders were ripped apart, their supernatural prowess insufficient to stem the tide of the Hive Fleet.

By the end of 05.024M42, the situation on Mendesum had deteriorated catastrophically for the forces of Chaos. Tyranid bioforms rampaged unchecked across the planet, their advance apparently unstoppable, and the once formidable defences of Mendesum crumbled under the relentless assault. The forces of Chaos, now beleaguered and desperate, found themselves besieged within Mendesum Prime, the largest city and their final stronghold on the planet.

Within Mendesum Prime, the atmosphere was one of grim resolve and impending doom. The city's defences, designed to repel conventional foes, strained under the pressure of the Tyranid onslaught. Chaos Space Marines, traitor guardsmen, and summoned daemons prepared for a last stand, aware that the Hive Fleet Poseidon would not relent until every last living thing was consumed.

Chaos land on Gamador

In 05.023M42, the forces of Chaos found themselves at a strategic crossroads. The Tau Empire and the Imperium were initiating new offensives, threatening to outflank Chaos positions in the Perseus Deeps while their stalemate against the Imperium on Mordecai persisted. Recognising the danger of these dual offensives, particularly against what was perceived as a dormant Necron Empire, the forces of Chaos, led by the Iron Warriors, launched a pre-emptive invasion of the Necron world of Gamador. Their objectives were twofold: to secure the world and protect vital supply routes from Calliden, and to contest the new Tau invasion of Gamador.

The initial landing by the Iron Warriors was swift and decisive. They captured the tomb complex city of Kagenut, establishing a strong foothold on the planet and defeating the necron presence in the tomb complex. With momentum on their side, the Iron Warriors advanced southwards towards the strategically crucial Bridge of Hashep. This gargantuan megastructure spanned the treacherous terrain of Gamador, serving as a vital link between Kagenut and the Necron stronghold of Nepheru.

However, the Necrons were far from dormant. Launching a formidable counterattack from Nepheru, they forced the Iron Warriors into a tactical withdrawal. To hold the northern end of the Bridge of Hashep, the Iron Warriors summoned the daemonic warband known as the Wayward Passengers. Despite their ferocity, the daemons were eventually banished back to the Warp by the relentless Necron assault, resulting in the Necrons regaining control of the bridge.

The Bridge of Hashep's significance cannot be overstated. It was a strategic lifeline across the harsh and unforgiving terrain of Gamador, critical for maintaining the link between Kagenut and Nepheru. The loss of the bridge represented a severe setback for the Iron Warriors, complicating their efforts to secure the planet and maintain supply lines.

The Battle for Gamador had now become a critical and fiercely contested theatre in the broader conflict within the Perseus Deeps. The initial success of the Iron Warriors underscored their tactical prowess, but the resilience and counterattack capabilities of the Necrons highlighted the challenges of waging war on a tomb world. For now however the forces of chaos had at least established a foothold on the world.

Enaloth falls to the Imperium

In the annals of the Perseus Campaign, the fall of Enaloth may be marked as a pivotal chapter in the Imperium's strategic maneuvers within the Perseus Deeps. Enaloth, a critical system on the Imperial left flank, had been marked for conquest as part of the broader strategy to stabilize and secure the region. The main body of Lord General Kutuzov's army was entrenched in a protracted assault on Mordecai Secundus, leaving Enaloth's invasion to the capable hands of General Veers.

Initiated in early 024M42, the invasion of Enaloth — a world dominated by the ancient Necron threat — progressed favourably for the Imperium. A significant turning point in this campaign was the Battle of Sensenakht, where the Dark Angels' Ravenwing, known for their speed and precision, engaged and decisively defeated the Necron forces. The Necrons, driven from their tomb complexes, retreated in disarray towards the major remaining necron complex at Dakhaskhet. Sensing the potential for a swift and decisive victory, General Veers ordered all available forces to press the advantage.

The Novgorod Guard, renowned for their resilience and tenacity, pursued the fleeing Necrons with relentless vigor. Their pursuit, however, stretched their lines perilously thin. Eventually, the scattered forces of the Novgorod Guard, bolstered by a Hellhammer super-heavy tank, caught up with the Necrons. The ensuing engagement was fierce and unforgiving.

Despite the overwhelming firepower of the Hellhammer, it became a prime target for the Necron forces. Within minutes of engaging in battle, the Hellhammer was destroyed, its wreckage a testament to the Necrons' relentless focus. The skies remained contested as a Necron flier, a harbinger of death, refused to be downed until the final stages of the conflict. Nonetheless, the tenacity of the Novgorod infantry proved decisive. With numerous squads holding key objectives, they outlasted the Necron resistance.

In a poignant scene underscoring the cost of victory, a battered and nearly annihilated squad of Novgorod infantry held firm on a critical objective, their eyes fixed on the approaching Necron units. Their sacrifice and determination epitomized the grim resolve of the Imperial forces.

Despite suffering heavy casualties, the Imperial forces emerged victorious. The defeat shattered Necron resistance on Enaloth, paving the way for the complete subjugation of the system. By 0106.024M42, General Veers was able to report to Imperial High Command that Enaloth was firmly under Imperial control, marking a wholly successful campaign against the Necron menace and securing a vital foothold in the Perseus Deeps for the Imperium.

Alliance consolidate on Hylas

The 107th Legion “Arctic Foxes” had succeeded in their surprise offensive, securing the southern city of Benger before the Imperium was even aware they were under attack. Shocked into action Imperial command wasted no time in organising a counter offensive. The war machine of the Imperial Guard swung into action and subjected Benger to a sustained artillery and air bombardment that levelled much of the cities northern suburbs. It lacked subtlety and caused massive collateral damage to civilian targets but the Imperials hoped the shock and brutality of their response would sweep the Federacy from Hylas before they could become properly established.

With the cities outskirts obscured by choking clouds of smoke from still burning buildings Imperial command scraped together whatever assault groups they could find and sent them in. Companies of Rough Riders spearheaded the assault, backed up with artillery and tanks pulled from the bombardment corps.

The offensive immediately hit difficulties as the cavalry ran into a hail of fire. Their charge hit home and overcome the first defences but then became surrounded by an aggressive mechanised counter attack that quickly encircled them before punching out through the ring of the bombardment corps. The Imperial forces suffered high casualties as they attempted to fall back, only to find themselves being overtaken by the speed of the Federacy's advance. Keen to exploit their advantage whilst it lasted the 107th Legion pushed out towards Desmond and Finlay.

Federacy invade Hylas

After the successful rebellion which saw the Aleph subsector free itself from Imperial rule the collection of worlds that were to became known as “The Federacy” had largely abjured themselves from the wider events of the sector. Whilst the hawkish Votann of Hartak wanted to continue the struggle and free ever more worlds from the Imperial yoke they were opposed by the other Federal governments who wished to focus on rebuilding their war-scarred societies and strengthening their defences against the ever present threat of an Imperial crusade, a crusade they had no stomach in provoking through further expansion.

As the Federal worlds rebuilt and prospered and the horrors of war became a distant memory the attitudes of their peoples gradually shifted. The bellicose Leagues of Hartak became ever more difficult to silence and they gained support amongst the fierce Sartosans and proud martial culture of Cerberex. The Tau Empire also began to place ever increasing pressure on the Federal Council, pointing out their continued alliance and military support was contingent on reciprocity. Why should the Tau Empire guarantee the Federacy's independence from the Imperium when they were receiving nothing tangible in return? Behind closed doors ambassadors from the Aeldari also quietly urging the Federacy to action.

With great reluctance the Federal Council had authorised the Leagues of Hartak to mobilise their fleet in support of the Tau invasion of New Cerberex. Although they hadn't engaged in direct action the fleets presence in the Zadoc subsector had contributed to an overwhelming Alliance naval superiority that discouraged the overstretched Imperial Navy from risking the loss of any more of their ships contesting the invasion.

Following the Tau win on New Cerberex it was now the Federacy's turn to get its hands dirty once more. Spearheaded with legions from the Leagues of Hartak the Federacy were to provide the primary forces and logistical support for the invasion of Hylas. The Votann of Hartak had built up a formidable and well equipped professional army and were keen to show what it could do.

Masters of their own icy homeworld the Kȃhls of Hartak immediately saw the opportunity to exploit the sparse defences and patchy sensor net of the world's southern polar region. In secret they would gradually build up a base in the hostile frozen wasteland that their own equipment and tactics were so uniquely well adapted for before striking north in a rapid blitz that would, hopefully, take the Imperium completely unawares.   Hylas had been relatively peaceful for years, following the end of the long and punishing war against the ork menace in 018M42. However, the infrastructure of the world was still recovering, and the populace remained scarred by the brutality of the battle against the greenskins. By 024M42 the Imperial commanders were well aware that Hylas would be the next target for the Tau Empire, and with the imperial fleet still in refit, Sector General lord Baran Price expected it to be sooner rather than later.

To defend the world Hylas forces were quickly organised and reinforced by Librian Guard, now renamed the 2nd Aleph Wardens regiment as the stain of the fall of Libria was wiped off imperial records. General Van Dorn, a veteran with intimate knowledge of Hylas, was brought out of retirement to deal with the imminent Tau invasion. Defences were prepared around likely drop zones and lines of advance. With nothing else to do, the Imperium waited.

The first inkling of an invasion wasn't Tau mantas sweeping in from orbit, but the loss of communication with Ice Station 57K in the far south of the world in the frozen wastes south of the Beng plains. Information was slow in coming through, but Van Dorn was aware this was likely a hostile attack so redeployed some of his Aleph Warden forces to Beng itself.

Further south the imperial patrols posted to the area had suddenly been assaulted by armoured figures quite unlike the Tau, who appeared very at home in the icy terrain, utilising void suits and hardy vehicles running on large wheels, perfect for the snow and ice. This was the Hartak 107th Ice foxes, a regiment of abhumans from the Federacy, which the Librians had faced before many years previously on Myrentas II. The initial skirmishes with patrols almost stymied the Federal plans to cut off communications, but at a critical moment the morale of the Aleph Wardens regiment collapsed, and the units fled in disarray.

Having dealt with the patrols and established a bridgehead on the world, with the Imperium still unaware that the Federacy were leading the assault and had already invaded Hylas, the Hartak forces pushed on to Benger hoping it would be relatively undefended. Thanks to Van Dorn's awareness however, Benger was fully defended by imperial guard forces, and the tanks of the Aleph Wardens proved to have effective firepower against the Votann forces of Hartak, though their lascannons were woefully inaccurate.

Poor accuracy from the defenders and poor morale in the cold southern settlement rather than overwhelming force or stunning tactics saw the city fall to the Federacy by 1804.024M42. In fact the Hartak force had been over confident, and the commander received criticism from Federal command for rushing into the city and incurring higher casualties than was necessary. On the imperial side there was despondency as yet again the Alliance of the Federacy and Tau had the imperial guard on the defensive, and had defeated an entrenched defensive force.

To address the immediate situation General Van Dorn appealed for Astartes aid, and the Sky Lords were the first to respond, deploying a company to the world to act as a rapid reaction force. Meanwhile the forces of the Federacy continued to build up their base near the south pole, their supply ships unhindered by the imperial navy, and the imperial defenders on Hylas unable to interfere. A new war for Hylas had begun.
