War on Tarlius continued unabated as 02/018M42 progressed. The Grey Knights sallied forth from their base on Tarlius 1 to land a devastating strike against the Death Guard, dropping from the heavens from their strike cruisers, now in permanent station at their base and just a few hours from Tarlius II, where the war between the Imperium and chaos raged on. The Death Guard were smashed by the surprise assault, and the manifestation of Mortarion himself was banished to the warp. This time however the Death Guard did not withdraw. They saw their holy duty to expunge all daemon and human presence on the world, so began setting up another base on Tarlius 2 itself. Now any force on the world was only an hour from finding itself under attack from the Ordo Malleus strike force.
In the south of Tarlius, General Patreus continued to prosecute the war against chaos. The Novgorod had managed to hold the advance against the more conventional forces of chaos, and now they pressed their advantage. A continuous rolling barrage preceded the Guard advance, and the Thousand sons were unable to stop the momentum of the imperial advance. By 2002.018M42 the Imperium under Patreus had established a new front line against chaos and controlled much of the western hemisphere. However now the Imperial General had just as much to fear from the Grey Knights as the forces of chaos.
