On Hexis general Konev was becoming worried by the emerging Tyranid threat, so in 04.019M42 he detached a force to investigate the ruins to the north east of the imperial sector. For this action, the Omsk cavalry were employed, supported by Carnodon tanks. However, the patrol got into trouble when they encountered strong vanguard forces of Hive Fleet R’Lyeh.
The Tyranids gunned down large amounts of the imperial cavalry, and to the imperial guards’ distress, the cavalry charges that did hit home failed to have the devastating effect on the xenos creatures. The Carnadons too struggled to hit their targets, as the xenos appeared extremely adept at hiding and skulking amongst the ruins.
The commanding colonel was killed, and his second in command ordered a retreat. The entire area was marked perdita, and Konev was forced to build defences against the new threat to his flank.
