The immediate priority for the forces of chaos on Hexis following the loss of their base was consolidation. General Konev was aware of the perilous state of the traitor armies however, and demanded an all out offensive to finish them off and drive them from Praxis. However, the Imperial armies had also been suffering from supply and reinforcement problems, and had only just recovered in the west from the unfortunate events that the fleet action had caused in the previous month.
Nevertheless Lycaon general Randolf commanding 2nd army was ordered to attack and drive out the chaos forces from west Praxis. To do this Randolf was less than keen to use maximum effort, knowing that any significant movement of forces would be detected by the alliance and could spell catastrophe. Instead, the Omsk cavalry division under his command was sent in to charge the enemy in the ruins of the ancient city.
Unfortunately for the Imperium the Emerald Serpent had significantly reinforced Greghaz's ailing West Front armies, and now held strong positions in the central ruins. The Omsk cavalrymen charged through a hail of accurate fire, many cut down before even reaching the enemy lines. Those that did, failed to make a dent in the chaos defences, and their charges crumpled on the steel resolve of traitor astartes and armour. The assault was a shambles and called off very soon after it had begun, allowing the Emerald Serpent to continue overseeing their more important matters, fortifying their positions in the centre of Praxis around the all important device chamber.
