By 11.018M42 the imperium felt strong enough to go on the offensive once again in the Hadron Expanse. Despite the resurgence of chaos at Boltarean and the findings on Hexis, the primary imperial plan was still the subjegation of all worlds in the Echo Cluster. The obvious next step to fulfil this plan was Goreen, an ork infested world to the galactic north of The crusade worlds of Hussaria and Arawath.
The planned move on Goreen was helped significantly by the detente between the Crusade and Loyalist forces in the Expanse. With Vorushko present and Hathek half a sector away, the tension between the two sides had dropped, and a new imperial command set up under General Chuikov, and the expedition to Goreen was led by the Novgorod and knight House Stroganoff.
The fleet had to be significantly reduced however thanks to the loss of Enkvist’s battle group. With only minimal ork activity in space the imperium remained confident that the expedition would be successful in taking then holding key objectives in the system, with an eventually eye to conquering it entirely, securing the imperial northern flank.
Upon landing at Goreen, the imperial force encountered an unexpected enemy. Having been defeated at Hylas the ork warlord known as Von Bismork has now reappeared in the Hadron Expanse, and his warbands of highly mobile orks immediately challenged the main imperial landing on Goreen I.
The knights of House Stroganoff found it difficult at first to contain the green skins, with more than one being pulled down and destroyed by the xenos menace. However, the spaceport was a vital objective to hold on to, so the Knights and attached imperial guard fought furiously to prevent the ork onslaught from breaking through their lines. Eventually, the green skin tide slackened, allowing the emperor’s forces to dig in, reinforcing their positions on the main planet while smaller forces secured several outer worlds.
By 0511.018M42 the imperial expedition had established a significant presence at Goreen and looked set to remove the green skin threat from the Echo Cluster.
