The fighting on Corticant had reduced to skirmishes since the Ynnari and Craftworld of Ul'Staer had taken Bymarsh. General Veers was keen to retake the settlement and detailed the Novgorod Guard to assault the small city. As ever with fighting the Aeldari, the enemy maintained no fixed defences. Instead the Imperial force was allowed to enter the settlement, before the predictable ambush occurred.
This time, the Aeldari force the Novgorod faced an assault by the Dark Eldar. The fast moving xenos, travelling in lightly armoured raider vehicles, attempted to rapidly close the distance, but, aware of their enemy's predeliction for hit and run attacks, the Imperium had made sure they were adequately protected by rocket artillery. In the very first volley the drucharii suffered a telling blow as their command raider was knocked out, forcing much of their elite strike force to walk. The Imperium kept up the massive bombardment, disrupting the eldar advance even more. Jetbikes attempted to distract and harrass, but the Novgorod guard were able to fight off these attacks, causing substantial losses. When the enemy deployed mandrakes appearing from the shadows close to the guard lines, the disciplined volley fire of lasguns prevented any break in the imperial lines.
After hours of savage fighting the dark eldar attacks became more sporadic and uncoordinated, and it became clear that the Imperium had secured the city, further digging in in order to dissuade the alliance of xenos forces from sending in any further assaults.
