On 0605.020M42 the Imperium lost their last base in the Hussaria system, just days after losing their last foothold on the major inhabited planet. The result of this defeat forced the Imperial fleet to abandon the system, retreating to Awarath, and further afield, the worsening stategic and logistics situation across the sector forced general Kutuzov to formally request that his forces be allowed to go on the defensive at Mordecai.The Imperium, commanded by General Percival in the Hadron Expanse, always expected Malkaor to launch an invasion of the Hussaria III base, but the force that attacked the isolated station was nothing like anything they had encountered previously, and suggested that another Tau commander, with a clear fondness for gun drones, had joined the Tau forces in the system. When the assualt started, the White Scars chapter were ready to respond, but were overly confident, moving too close to the tau firing line in the open, taking serious casualties in the attempt to close to melee range.
The fast moving astartes force did manage to land their charge, but even then, a force of brave and determined fire warriors on the right flank significantly delayed the White Scars advance, holding on long enough for the rest of the tau army to reposition away from the remaining human warriors. The victory for the tau was total, as the entire White Scars force sent to counter attack the invading army was wiped out by the overwhelming tau firepower. The charge had failed and the entire defence of the Hussaria III base now became untenable. The Imperium conceded defeat and abandoned the system, precipitating the subsequent halt in all offensive operations across the sector until the strategic situation improved.
